Three quarters of the scoop is active

14.65 g of the 19.6 g scoop is active compound. The remaining 4.95 g is the flavour system: citric acid, malic acid, natural and artificial flavours, silicon dioxide, acesulfame potassium, sucralose, and flavour-specific natural colouring. Brutal Berry uses blue spirulina powder for colour.

That ratio is the whole argument. A 19.6 g scoop is large for a pre-workout, and a large scoop is only worth carrying if the mass is doing something. Compare any tub against this number: divide the stated actives by the scoop weight. If a brand won’t print the scoop weight, you can’t run the calculation, and that is usually deliberate.

The citrulline is the part worth understanding

PyroZn contains 6 g of pure L-citrulline. Most pre-workouts use citrulline malate instead, which is L-citrulline bonded to malic acid and sold in a stated ratio — usually 2:1 or 1:1.

That ratio matters, because you are buying the malate too:

  • 8 g of 2:1 citrulline malate delivers about 5.33 g of actual citrulline. The other 2.67 g is malic acid.
  • 8 g of 1:1 citrulline malate delivers about 4 g of citrulline.
  • 6 g of pure L-citrulline delivers 6 g of citrulline.

So a label reading “8 g citrulline malate” looks like a bigger number than “6 g L-citrulline” and delivers less of the amino acid. This is the most common place where a pre-workout panel misleads without printing anything false.

The 2021 meta-analysis in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism examined citrulline malate protocols of 6–8 g taken 40–60 minutes before training, with most trials using 8 g at the 60-minute mark. Those are the doses the research ran on.

The rest of the panel, in order of mass

Beta-alanine — 3.2 g. A non-essential amino acid, and the rate-limiting precursor for muscle carnosine. Carnosine loading is cumulative across daily intake rather than acute, so what matters is the daily total, not the per-scoop figure. The ISSN position stand on beta-alanine recommends 4–6 g daily for a minimum of four weeks. One scoop of PyroZn provides 3.2 g of that total. The stand also notes the only reported side effect is paraesthesia — the tingle — typically above 800 mg in a single non-sustained-release dose.

Betaine anhydrous — 1.5 g. Trimethylglycine, a methyl donor found naturally in beets and wheat. Published resistance-training trials have generally run at 2.5 g daily over multi-week protocols.

L-arginine — 1 g. An amino acid. Worth knowing: oral arginine is poorly bioavailable compared with citrulline, which is why citrulline carries the larger dose here.

L-tyrosine — 1 g. An amino acid and precursor in catecholamine synthesis.

Taurine — 1 g. A sulfonic acid found in high concentration in skeletal muscle and heart tissue.

Beet root extract — 500 mg. A dietary nitrate source.

CDP-choline (citicoline) — 250 mg. A choline-containing compound the body uses in acetylcholine and phosphatidylcholine synthesis.

Caffeine anhydrous — 200 mg. The ISSN position stand on caffeine describes an ergogenic range of 3–6 mg per kilogram of body mass, roughly 60 minutes before exercise, and notes that side effects rise linearly with dose. At 200 mg, one scoop sits at about 2.9 mg/kg for a 70 kg athlete and 2.5 mg/kg at 80 kg. This is a deliberately moderate caffeine load, not a stimulant-forward formula.

Huperzine A — 100 mcg. An alkaloid isolated from Huperzia serrata. At one ten-thousandth of the scoop, it is the smallest entry on the panel and is drawn at minimum visible width in the figure above so that it can be located at all.

Read this the right way. The dose figures above describe what is in the tub. The research figures describe what published trials administered and measured in their own subjects. They are two separate facts placed side by side so you can compare them yourself. Nothing here is a statement about what PyroZn will do for you.

How to use it

Mix one scoop (19.6 g) with 10–12 oz of cold water, 20–30 minutes before training. Start with half a scoop to assess tolerance. Do not exceed 2 scoops in any 24-hour period.
