Pre-Workout Supplements

Fuel the session before it starts. VOLKAN's pre-workout is built on ten ingredients, every gram printed on the panel — including where our dose sits below the dose used in the published research.

Fully dosed vs. underdosed: how to tell

Most pre-workout powders carry the right ingredient list and the wrong ingredient amounts. A label can name L-citrulline, beta-alanine and caffeine and still deliver a fraction of what the research used. The only way to know is to read the number printed next to each ingredient — and the only way to read it is if the brand prints it at all.

A proprietary blend makes that impossible by design. It gives you one combined weight for a group of ingredients, so a 6,000mg "pump matrix" could be 5,900mg of the cheapest input and a token amount of everything else. VOLKAN does not use proprietary blends anywhere in the range.

The four numbers worth checking on any pre-workout

  • L-Citrulline — 6g. The citrulline literature typically works in the 6–8g range. PyroZn uses 6g of pure L-citrulline rather than citrulline malate, where 8g of a 2:1 blend yields roughly 5.33g of actual citrulline. A product listing 1g, or burying citrulline inside a blend, is not comparable no matter what the front of the tub says.
  • Beta-Alanine — 3.2g. The ISSN position stand describes 4–6g daily over a minimum of four weeks, so a single PyroZn scoop sits below that range. Half of 3.2g is nonetheless common at retail. The tingling sensation is paraesthesia — harmless, and no indication of dose.
  • Caffeine — 200mg. The ISSN ergogenic range is 3–6mg per kilogram of body mass, which puts 200mg at about 2.5mg/kg for an 80kg athlete: a moderate load, restrained enough to fit alongside the rest of your day's intake.
  • CDP-Choline — 250mg. A choline source the body uses in acetylcholine and phosphatidylcholine synthesis. Printed at full dose on the panel rather than folded into a blend.

Who a pre-workout suits

Pre-workout earns its place if you train hard enough that output drops late in a session, or you train early or after a full workday and need help arriving switched on. If you train fasted at low intensity, or you are caffeine-sensitive, you may get more from an intra-workout formula and a solid meal.

How to use it

Mix one scoop with 10–12 oz of cold water 20–30 minutes before training. Start with half a scoop to assess tolerance. Do not exceed two scoops in 24 hours. If you already drink coffee, count the caffeine in both.
