Creatine
100% pure creatine monohydrate. One ingredient, 5g per level scoop, printed on the panel.
Why monohydrate specifically
Creatine is the most researched compound in sports nutrition, and creatine monohydrate is the form nearly all of that research actually used. Newer forms — hydrochloride, buffered, ethyl ester, liquid — are typically sold at a premium on the argument that they absorb better or require smaller doses. The evidence base behind them is a fraction of the size, and none has been shown to outperform monohydrate on the outcomes that matter.
Monohydrate is also the cheapest form per gram. When the most studied option is also the least expensive, paying more usually buys marketing rather than results.
How much, and do you need to load?
Two approaches both work:
- Load, then maintain. 20g daily — four 5g scoops spread across the day — for 5 to 7 days, then 5g daily thereafter. This saturates muscle creatine stores faster.
- Skip the load. 5g daily from day one. You arrive at the same place; it just takes a few weeks rather than a week.
Neither is wrong. Loading is faster, skipping it is simpler and uses less product. Do not exceed 20g in a single day, and only during a loading phase.
Timing, and the questions people actually ask
Does timing matter? Far less than consistency. Creatine works by saturating muscle stores over time, so the important thing is taking it every day — including rest days — not the hour you take it.
Do you need to cycle it? No. There is no established requirement to cycle off.
Should you drink more water? The label recommends an additional 8–16 oz of water daily while using creatine.
Will it make you look bloated? Creatine draws water into muscle cells, which is part of how it works. Some people notice a small increase in scale weight early on.
What to check on any creatine tub
The panel should name creatine monohydrate on its own line with a gram figure beside it, state the scoop size, and give a servings count that reconciles against the net weight. Krator: 5g per scoop, 60 servings, 300g. Unflavored, tasteless and odorless, so it mixes into water, juice or a protein shake without changing the taste.
